Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new romantic comedy standalone in the USA Today bestselling, Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is LIVE!

MOI copy.jpg
There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.
Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.
Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.
Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

Marriage of Inconvenience (Knitting in the City, #7)Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Penny Reid writes brilliant characters. I mean brilliant in every sense. They shine from the page and they are oh so lovable. Witty conversations and inner dialogue will keep you in stitches (he he).
She makes me want to laugh one page and cry the next but honestly, mostly laugh.

Dan and Kat's story is the finale of the Knitting in the City series. It perfectly wraps up the series. Dan is a great hero. He is handsome and goodhearted. He has that dirty mouth that gets us ladies EVERY TIME.

Kat is a multi-dimensional character. In her alternate life she appears more meek and mousy, but when circumstances required she was quite bold. She has had a crush a Dan the Security Man for a while but a misunderstanding over a year before causes tension on both their parts.

I enjoyed this book and this series and as always look forward to more Penny Reid.

I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid

Oh wow. What a wonderful ending to an amazinggggggg series! The story of Dan and Kat has been brewing foreverrrrrr and finally we have it in our hot little hands and boy, does Reid deliver!

After a huge misunderstanding over two years ago, Dan and Kat have been friends but not friendly if you know what I mean. However, the simmering attraction and the feelings they had for each other never died and when Kat finds herself in need of a husband, she - with some gentle nudging - turns to Dan. Dan being Dan doesn’t hesitate for a single second to agree with whatever it is Kat needs. For me, that was the first of *many* swoony moments.

Reid has issued copious warnings about the amount of swearing Dan does throughout this book and it’s been no exaggeration. I personally consider myself well-accomplished in the usage of f-bombs and even I had to highlight some of his more interesting combinations! Swearing aside, Dan, The Security Man was utter perfection in a gorgeous package: he was protective but not overbearingly so, he was deliciously sexy, he was funny, he had a strong sense of family. I could go on and on but what I loved most was how he felt about his Kit-Kat and what lengths he would go to for her. Despite his feelings, I loved that he wouldn’t compromise what he wanted just to have her (which makes no sense but refers to the aforementioned misunderstanding). He’s pretty much everything you could want in a hero but also comes with his own set of issues.

I didn’t really feel like I knew Kat based on what I’d read in the previous books but obviously now I know her well enough to be bffs. How can I put this without sounding like I pity the poor little rich girl? Given her life circumstances, I felt for her. Hugely. But then I was overcome with her strength and resilience that pity for her didn’t even enter my mind. She’s strong and independent. When backed into a corner, she’s claws her way out. She’s made mistakes and she owns them. She has a very gentle and vulnerable side but a spine of steel when needed.

I loved the slow burning romance in Marriage of Inconvenience. I loved Dan and Kat. I loved everything about their relationship. I love that Reid doesn’t shy away from tackling some serious issues. I love that each time I read a Reid (hah!), I learn something new. I love that we got a bit from the other couples in the series and the final wrap-up. I just loved it all. What did I not love? Just the fact that it’s over! I’m hoping that Reid will take pity on us and give us another glimpse in the future but in the meantime, I’m going to plan a series reread.

Brava on a brilliant end to a favorite series.

Marriage of Inconvenience (Knitting in the City, #7)Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I feel a bit overwhelmed having to review this book, probably because the culmination of this book, the series even, has overwhelmed me, most wonderfully. I cannot believe it’s over but I couldn’t be more content, more satisfied and fuzzy with feelings. I have pages and pages of highlights on my kindle of fantastic narrative, dialogue and words that either hit me in the gut or exasperated my husband with the incessant snorting.

Dan and Kit-Kat were everything I hoped and dreamed of, considering I’ve been invested in these two since the first book. This is the ONLY series of interconnected characters where I have truly felt each one is better than the last, knowing they’re all actually as good as one another. This couple hit the whole pretend-marriage, slow-burn, friends-to-more themes with beautiful, bubbling chemistry. I lived for their dialogue, banter, awkwardness and heart in the words.

Dan was the epitome of a real, flawed but genuine guy, swoony and dashing all rolled in up a fine suit. His gutter mouth was just delightful to me and this was one of sources of hilarity for me.

“I swear, this woman. My heart was beating a million miles a minute. She clearly had no idea the kind of power she had over me. Or maybe she did, and this torture was on purpose.”

Kat had such character growth from awkward, cheese-loving, self-deprecating quietness to something ....well, I’ll leave you to read what becomes of Kat. Suffice it to say, I admired her hugely and I cheered her silently in my mind from start to finish. Her issues provided a great story both in relationship terms and general storyline too.

“Dan is cheese.”

The side characters were rich, Caleb, Eugene and Eleanor made this book and story so absorbing, in addition to the main characters. The knitting crew featured throughout and this made the story ‘whole’ to me, an underlining and finishing of the series where I felt as if I touched base with each couple. I AM CONTENT. The epilogue made me gush a few happy tears.

“As was my habit, I checked their hands for knitting needles and tequila bottles, which seemed to be their weapons of choice when faced with goons.

I must make note in my review of how mental illness was addressed in this book. Penny Reid dealt with this both knowledgeably and respectfully. I particularly appreciated the narrative regarding labelling of disease.

Penny Reid’s writing was as ever, intelligent, well researched, funny and yet easy to get lost in. This is one of my favourite all-time series and I admire her writing style and talent so much. Fan girl for life.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
